How much do you want your Parish Newsletter? Stephen Mort, our Parish Administrator, tries manfully to produce a Newsletter each month with not much material to hand. He is the Editor to try and turn out a worthwhile edition. Part of the problem regarding contributions is that we no longer have a Vicar or Lecturer who you could guarantee would produce something in the past. This being the case then I think it is incumbent on the congregation to rally round and fill the Newsletter with many items which could be of interest to us all. A little while ago I wrote about Talents which in some form or the other we all have but possibly deny but now is the time for budding writers to step forward. We have no idea when we will have a new Vicar when he/she could provide a regular item So I think it is extremely important that contributions from the congregation be submitted, if anything, to impress the new Incumbent that we have a viable Newsletter. Please, please do what you can. Translating this from an old Boltonian tribal war cry we have “Let’s be having you”. By the way, if I was given material to write about then I should be very pleased to do so. Following my usual practice of writing up things when I think about them I wrote the above a number of weeks before the last Newsletter appeared and therefore I was delighted to read the article in the April edition putting out the points regarding more contributors to submit stuff for the Newsletter. Thank you very much IJP. By an extraordinary coincidence last month’s Newsletter was much better.
In the Upper Room On the Wednesday evening during Holy Week quite a number of us congregated in the Parish Hall in the appropriately named Upper Room to celebrate with music, readings and prayers the forthcoming events of Good Friday. The food was provided by everyone and tastefully arranged to be enjoyed. Slides were projected and various readings were spoken by several people. Stephen, our Director of Music, played on the new portable organ some deeply touching music which was magnificent. The whole evening was extremely well organised by Sheila Wrigley who accomplished it with much detail and with such meaning. She was ably supported by a number of people including the Rev. Roy Iddon to whom we also give thanks. I should like to see this event repeated.
Whitsun Bonnets I admired the few ladies who braved the atrocious weather on Easter Sunday to wear their “bonnets”. I don’t blame anyone who thought that fur lined boots and hats were more in keeping with the weather! However, why not use Whitsunday instead? So, don’t forget all you ladies the date is May 11th.to parade!
Holy residents I was delighted with the article submitted by Stephen Mort related to the roosting of a pair of Peregrine falcons in the church tower. The only thing that worries me, |

however, is whether protocol has been followed to raise a Diocesan faculty for such a residence to be allowed on our church property! Interestingly, the Daily Telegraph printed on 31st March an article about the tendency now for the Peregrines to inhabit built up areas, especially high buildings.
Mabel Swindley It is with much regret that we record the death of Mabel. We have been praying for her for a number of years – many would not have known her. For a good many years Mabel worshipped at the Parish Church but in time because of considerable walking difficulties she attended St. James’, Breightmet, which was only a stone’s throw from her home. It was good to hear that Sheila Wrigley took Communion to her.
Laughter in church What did one angel say to the other angel? “Halo there”

CHERRY VANN
We extend our sympathy to Cherry Vann, our former curate and College Chaplain, on the death of her parents. Cherry’s father, Maurice, died first in mid-April, followed by her mother Jean a few days later. Both had been suffering from long-term illness, and while not totally unexpected, their passing has been a double loss to both Cherry and her sister, who would both appreciate our prayers at this difficult time.
