Text Box: #

As part of the Church’s celebrations for the refurbishment and the inauguration of the Organ, we are holding a week of festivities from Saturday 21st June to 29th June 2008 – St Peter’s Day. We hope the organ will be ready by then and it playing will be a vital part of the celebrations.

In order to organise such a large event we have set up a committee “The St Peter’s Churchgate Festival Committee” which has been approved as a sub committee of, and by The Church Parochial Council.

The aim of the committee is to involve the Church and community in events to jointly promote the Churchgate area of Bolton, including the Church and grounds of Bolton Parish Church, and, subject to the agreement of Bolton MBC as the Highway Authority, the adjoining public areas. Membership is open to those with an interest in the general area of Churchgate, Bolton.

The executive members of the sub-committee are:

           John Walsh              Chair

           Ken Jones                vice Chair

           Elizabeth Tatman    Secretary

           David Morlidge      Treasurer

And we welcome more members. We will need many helpers from the Church congregation and if you would like to be involved please contact one of the above as soon as possible.

It is hoped that there will be a Medieval Market along Churchgate in Saturday 21st June 2008 similar to the one for Charter Day four years ago. We want to extend the market into the grounds of the Church along the various paths with stalls hopefully of a medieval style and the stall-holders in medieval costume where possible.

We hope to have stalls for Charities between the gates and Church and along the various paths. If you know of any charities who may want a stall to sell merchandise, raise money etc. please let us know and we can make contact.

We hope to have a car boot (sorry cart boot) sale on the Church Car Park as well so start collecting your merchandise now!

Also we have booked the “Knights in Battle”, a medieval re-enactment society, who has made successful visits to Smithills Hall in the past. They focus on My Lord Howard’s Household – life in the mid 15th Century at the time of the Wars of the Roses, with domestic scenes as well as military ones. There will be a chance to rehearse battle techniques and weapon training. Also booked is ‘Tapestry of Music’ who will give us a medieval concert on Saturday evening. We also are hoping to have Birds of Prey which we have had before and will continue the medieval theme.

We hope to have a marquee up in the grounds too, which will be used for hospitality and concerts during the week’s events. We are hoping to involve our church schools in the event and ideas as to how we can do this or other suggestions will be most helpful.

During the week we hope to have a concert or events in Church or the grounds (depending on the weather) of various styles including of course the organ, symphony orchestra, jazz band, Smithills Brass Band, Songs form the Shows, School Choir Concerts, etc.

We hope to finish with a celebration of the Organ on St Peter’s Day 29th June at the 10.30 service or perhaps an afternoon service which has to be decided.

All these events will need stewarding and lots of “backroom boys and girls” to help – so please let the committee know how you can help as soon as possible. You may want to have a stall, or steward in Church during the days, or help with refreshments, or help with publicity, or be on the door for concerts, or serve drinks in the marquee or, or … … the jobs are many – so we need you!!

Requests for Intercessions

Anyone wishing to add the name of a member of the Church, their family or themselves to those printed on the weekly pew sheet, and for whom we pray during services, should add the name to the list, which is kept in the vestry and is available on request.

We have reviewed the way in which we ensure the names on the list remain up to date.  The names will remain on the list until we receive a request to remove the name.  Every 3 months a member of the Pastoral Care Team will contact the person who added a name to the list to check that the details are still correct.  We will also remove names from the list if we cannot contact the person who made the request.
