Golden Wedding

Our sincere congratulations go to Doreen and Norman Fort who celebrate their Golden Wedding on March 29th.  They were married in the Parish Church by Canon RG Norburn assisted by Rev E.B. Pateman in 1958.

Two present members of our congregation, Joan Heys and Vera Bailey were at the wedding fifty years ago.   They remember that although it was Lent Canon Norburn had agreed that there could be flowers in church, which were removed quickly after the service.  They confirm that Doreen looked really lovely, and that she refused the protection of an umbrella when it rained that day.

Doreen was already a committed member of the church by this time, having started to attend the Sunday School as a child.  Since their marriage both she and Norman have been actively involved in many different aspects of our church’s life, frequently as office holders.  There are current (middle-aged) members of our congregation who have vivid memories of Doreen being their Sunday School teacher.

As we think about their years together we will recognise how much their church life has meant to Doreen and Norman, as well as about the consistently generous offerings of their abilities, enthusiasm and time that they have given to this church.

We hope that Doreen and Norman and their family enjoy a very happy day, and send them our very best wishes for the future.

L.M.E.
