Peregrine Falcons

We've now established that the Peregrines are definitely down on eggs on the nest tray at the Town Hall, having taken a couple of weeks to drive off the pair of Ravens that were nesting above them!

I'm sure Diane will agree with me that it will be perfectly OK for you to have access to your roof again now. I suggest we leave the trays in position, if they are not causing a problem to you, just in case we have more problems with Ravens on the Town Hall next year. Ravens and Peregrines don't like each other, and although Peregrines are usually the victors, it's not always the case.

Many thanks for your help over this - we really thought they would go for the Parish Church, but didn't realise the Ravens had this nest 30 feet above the Peregrines and that was what was causing them to go onto the church.

Further up date:

I am pleased to be able to inform you that there are at least 2 chicks in the Peregrine tray, which today were being fed on a pigeon. Because we need to ascertain how old they are, with a view to ringing them at around 18 days, our licence holder Craig Bell has nominated me as a named person on his Schedule 1 licence and asked me to have a look at them sometime this week. Depending on the weather, this will be Wednesday or Thursday morning, if that is OK with the town hall authorities. I estimate that I will be at the tray for just as long as it takes me to photograph them for Craig, who will then be able to tell their age.

Bolton Church Institute School

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am researching the answer to a family history enquiry and I wonder if you could help me.  Do you have a war memorial for WWI for the Bolton Church Institute hanging in the Parish Church?  It seems odd that I can find no record of a war memorial for the school for WWI.  I have had a look on the National Inventory of War Memorials web site and they have no record.  The school itself, now Canon Slade, only have a WW2 memorial.  I am wondering if the WWI memorial was transferred to the Parish Church when the old school closed and moved to its present location.

I am grateful for any help you can give me.

Regards

Stephen
