THE ANGLICAN PROVINCE of SOUTH-EAST ASIA
The dioceses of Singapore and Borneo have been long established: in the case of Singapore there has been a bishop since 1909, though St Andrew’s Cathedral was built some fifty years earlier. Our Director of Music, Stephen Carleston was in Borneo on his annual examining tour for the ABRSM last year, and visited St Thomas’s Cathedral in Kuching (though I doubt if he found an organ worth playing!) The division of the two original dioceses – West Malaysia from Singapore and based on Kuala Lumpur, and Sabah from Borneo, based on Kota Kinabalu – prompted the creation of a new Province in the 1980s. There are currently over 168,000 church members in the province and the present Archbishop is the Most Revd Made Katib, Bishop of Kuching, Borneo.
