Priest-in-Charge:   The Revd Matthew Thompson, MA, MPhil (Cantab)

 

Matt Thompson was licensed as Priest-in-Charge for both St Peter, Bolton-le-Moors and St Philip’s, Bolton on 23rd September, 2008

 

He trained for the ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and was ordained in 1994 to serve at the Church of the Ascension in Hulme, Manchester.   From 1997-2000 he served in the Langley & Parkfield Team at Middleton as Team Vicar, and moved to be Priest-in-Charge of the parish of St Cross, Clayton, in East Manchester in 2000.  From 2003 until his move to Bolton in 2008, he was also Area Dean of Ardwick.  Matt is an Examining Chaplain to the Bishop of Manchester.

 

Matt’s wife Michelle is also a priest and is currently Chaplain to H.M. Prison, Styal, near Manchester Airport.   Matt and Michelle have a three-year-old daughter, Ellie.

 

Lecturer:   The salary of the Lecturer is provided by the Hulme Lectureship Trustees.  The post has been vacant since the Revd. Debby Plummer departed to become Vicar of St Margaret, Prestwich in 2007, but an appointment is expected soon to bring the parish staff up to full strength.

 

Non-stipendiary priest:  The Revd. Professor Kenneth Newport, MA, MSt, DPhil, is Assistant Vice-Chancellor at Hope University, Liverpool, where he also heads the department of Theology.
