Centred on the local golf club of Midsummer, petty jealousies surface between captain and golf pro. Just who is organising this year’s annual dinner? Sides are taken and mayhem ensues. There is a man obviously in disguise as he is dressed as a woman but why is he there? Then the body is found. Is no-one innocent?

Performed by members of Bolton Little Theatre.

This is a rare and fascinating insight into the world of news and newspapers. Visitors to this special exhibition will be able to delve through old files, see photographs of employees at work, and find out why famous authors including Conan Doyle, J M Barrie and George Bernard Shaw struck up an amazing correspondence with the paper's owner Mr W S Tillotson in the 19th century.

 

BANK STREET UNITARIAN CHAPEL OPEN DAY

This historic building, deeply connected to the history of the town will be open all day with displays on the chapel's history and beliefs, including information on the first two mayors of Bolton, who worshipped in the chapel. You’ll find a great range of stalls offering a wide variety of goods and traditional crafts. There’s also fantastic entertainment throughout the weekend including Ferret Racing down the middle of Churchgate (water jumps included!), Shoeing of 'Thomas' a two ton Shire Horse using traditional hand pumped bellows and hand made horse shoes (Sat only), Medieval Witch Ducking, String Quartet from Booths Music Shop (Sat only), Face painting, Street Play - 'Times Don't Change' The Execution Of James Stanley, 7th Earl Of Derby (Sun only) plus a BBQ and Ox Roast cooked over a fire pit.

You’ll find soldiers, captain, cooks, armourers and other camp-followers of John Howard who became Duke of Norfolk in 1483, camped in the grounds of Bolton Parish Church. Discover what life was really like in the camp, see the medieval kitchen, find out about medieval surgery (from the man who was featured on the Tony Robinson programme about the worlds' worse jobs) and watch the soldiers call to arms as they prepare for battle.  Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Tapestry of Music brings early music from the medieval, Tudor and Baroque periods truly alive. They perform in costume and use a collection of fascinating early and ethnic instruments, including harps, lutes, saz, oud, hurdy-gurdy, shawms, bagpipes, nykelharpa and crumhorns among others. Bolton’s flagship World Youth Champion Senior Brass Band is taking time out of its busy schedule of competitions and performances to play at the Parish Church. The band continues to wow audiences both in the UK and abroad. Last year saw Smithills win yet more titles at the National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, French Open Championships and National Festival of Music For Youth in addition to the Senior Concert Band winning at the National Festival of Music For Youth and performing in the Royal Albert Hall Schools Proms.
