THE ORGAN

On December 18th, our appointed adviser, John Norman, visited the works of Principal Pipe Organs in York to inspect progress.  He subsequently sent Stephen Carleston   photographs of some of the restored parts, and these will be displayed in church with the other organ photographs.

The next thing which is likely to happen is the return of some of the restored parts.  This is because Bolton is one of the largest organs the firm have worked on (not as big as Clitheroe Parish Church or York Minster, however!), and the parts they already have virtually fill the works!

Those parts which still remain here will then be taken to York.  We have already stated that some parts, e.g.: the case pipes and bellows will be restored “on site”, and this remains the intention, so there is unlikely to be any difference in the outward appearance of the organ during the restoration.

One thing that will change is the console.  It has been decided to build a new, lower and more compact, mobile platform for the restored console.  The old platform has yet to be taken away, and came in very useful as a stand for the crib over the Christmas period!
