A WELCOME RETURN.
The BBC has recently announced that Radio Three has reversed its policy and will be reintroducing a live broadcast of Choral Evensong each Wednesday at 4 p.m., with a repeat broadcast on the following Sunday at the same time.
Choral Evensong was withdrawn from the Wednesday schedule eighteen months ago. Many people missed it, and petitioned against its withdrawal. One man, who always listened on his car radio on his journey home, described the service as a "Midweek Spiritual Refresher". His sentiment was echoed by other travellers by car and by train, by cooks preparing evening meals and by housebound people. A good number "used the programme as a midweek top up" supplementing and enriching their Sunday Worship.
The broadcasts resume on Wednesday September 17th at 4 p.m. There is unlikely to be a great deal of publicity to announce this welcome return so it would be helpful if readers could make this widely known. Audience figures will determine whether this re-instatement is maintained, so please spread the word.
