The Parish Church

Bolton Parish church stands firm and secure,

Its pinnacles reaching skywards,

A towering sentinel keeping guard over town,

With an ever-watchful eye.

A reminder of faith in years past,

And those which are to come,

Paths are yet untrodden,

In the Spring of this Millennium.

Time ticks by on the high clock-face,

As the town moves on, passes by,

Caught up in the rat-race.

Step inside, spare a moment or two;

Your Parish church beckons,

It is there just for you.

THE ANGLICAN CHURCH in SOUTHERN AMERICA

The province was formed in 1981, but there has been an Anglican presence in the area for over 170 years.  The diocese of Argentina and Eastern South America was established in 1880, and the church spread (particularly during the latter half of the twentieth century) into the neighbouring countries of Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.  There are now seven dioceses with approximately 25,000 members.   The Presiding Bishop is Gregory Venables of the diocese of Argentina, based in Buenos Aires, who is one of the group of (mainly southern hemisphere) primates seeking the expulsion of the American Episcopal Church from the Anglican Communion.
